OSDH is seeking a full time Institutional Safety & Security Coordinator  providing support to Building Mgmt. & Internal Services Department. Position Summary:  
Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving the administration or implementation of agency safety programs or providing consultative services to the agency planning, developing, and implementing safety programs. This includes preparing and delivering group presentations pertaining to health and safety practices; and providing guidance, assistance and training to other personnel in the performance of assigned tasks. Other tasks, including but not limited to, security, investigations, and inspections are included.

Position Responsibilities /Essential Functions
•Provide security inspections at county health departments.
•Provide inspections for state owned property including vehicles, trailers, office buildings, and other assets as needed relative to risk management.
•Assist with training relative to safety and operation of state owned vehicles and property.
•Assist with operation, trouble shooting, and installation of badge access equipment across multiple buildings in various counties around the state.
•Yearly testing of medical isolation rooms in county facilities.
•Assist with or conduct investigations for the agency upon request (internal investigations, animal bite investigations, or any other as needed)
•Performs a variety of risk management functions including evaluations and recommendations pertaining to automobile operations, liability exposure, property and casualty.
•Inspects facilities and work in progress to determine where hazards exist; makes on-site corrections of flagrant safety violations and hazardous conditions; stops work in progress in extremely dangerous situations; determines action to be taken; and prepares reports of findings and action taken.

Valued Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Candidates with knowledge of instillation, operation, or troubleshooting of electronic access control systems are preferred. Driver License is required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
This job will require extensive in state travel. This position requires the ability to lift/carry a minimum of 40 pounds, climb stairs, work in various types of weather (hot, cold), and climb in and out of vehicles.

Work involves sitting, walking, stooping, lifting, bending, pushing, carrying, and reaching. Work is typically performed in a climate-controlled office setting with exposure to moderate noise level. However, some work will be performed outside or in various community and warehouse settings with exposure to varying climate, lighting, and noise conditions. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to talk, stand, walk, and reach/push/pull with hands and arms. This position can involve long periods of sitting and requires daily use of the computer and phone. Applicants must be willing to perform all job-related travel associated with this position.




Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree in safety, security, or a closely related field and three years of qualifying experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of experience in law enforcement, safety, safety inspection, safety education, transportation management, or risk management for each year of the required education.
