Programs Administrator Laundry Services

This position organizes, supervises and administers the Laundry Services Program at an Oklahoma Veterans Center. This position is assigned responsibilities for planning, directing and conducting actions that ensure tasks are performed in accordance with safety and sanitation standards, as well as agency policy and procedures, to meet the linen and clothing laundering needs of all departments and patients residing in the Oklahoma Veterans Centers.

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:
The functions vary, but may include the following:
• Provide direct supervision to assigned Laundry Services staff, with responsibilities for employee development, evaluation of performance, approving leave and initiating disciplinary actions, as well as performing related administrative functions.
• Assign and review work and schedules for laundry employees, provide training, and ensure completion of required tasks Personally perform laundering procedures when short staffed or as necessary to ensure work is completed in a timely manner.
• Personally interact with customers when a problem occurs to fully understand the situation and how to resolve the matter to the satisfaction of the customer, within facility guidelines, in a prompt and courteous manner. Take appropriate measures to avoid reoccurring situations of a negative nature, and that the problems are resolved immediately.
• Review techniques on a regular basis to ensure all laundry is processed in a safe and sanitary manner. Review the laundry policy and procedure manual yearly, or as needed.  Establish and revise policies and procedures as needed, assuring compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations and standards. Inform all employees when there are any changes in policies and/or procedures
• Estimate amounts of clothing and linen to be used. Take necessary actions to ensure that nursing care has an adequate supply of linens on weekends and holidays.  Work with the material management department and coordinate with other applicable departments to requisition supplies and materials for the laundry to guarantee continuity of services.
• Keep personnel, production, inventory, time, supply, equipment and cost records
• Interview applicants for laundry positions and recommend selection to administration.
• Attend QI meetings, Functional Safety meetings and any other meetings or training sessions pertinent to laundry operations.
• Follow V.A., state and center policies, and procedures, rules and regulations; review periodically, and prepare for inspections/surveys.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of sewing techniques and skill to operate a sewing machine; to fit and alter clothing; and to operate various laundry equipment.  Knowledge of simple pattern making; and of textiles and their reaction to soaps, bleaches, bluing, alkalis, water temperature and detergents. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions relating to laundry and sewing operations;  and of basic mathematics; Ability to plan and schedule production; and to prepare written reports.  Knowledge of agency policies and procedures, of all state and federal legislation related to assigned agency programs; and of supervisory principles and practices.   Ability to supervise and direct activities of staff; to evaluate personnel  and program performance; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; to interpret and apply policy material; and to maintain effective working relationships with others.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
5 years experience in a commercial or institutional laundry, including as least one year of qualifying experience in a supervisory capacity.
