The Director of Computer Science Education will be responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of computer science education initiatives that will improve computer science programs and opportunities in Oklahoma districts and schools for instruction, equitable access and assessment. The Director will also design initiatives to support Oklahoma educators in highly effective implementation of the Oklahoma Academic Standards for Computer Science. The Director will work under the direction of the Executive Director of Academic Standard Implementation and STEM Education, and collaboration with the OSDE STEM team, as well as participation in cross-functional teams throughout the agency is also expected. 

● Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education [official transcript(s) required];
● Experience managing grants, budgets, and complex projects; and
● Three (3) years experience teaching or coordinating the instruction of computer science.

• Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Education;
• Valid Standard Teaching Certificate in Computer Science.

● Knowledge of state and federal school laws, rules, and regulations as they pertain to computer science education;
● Ability to approach challenges with an improvement or growth mindset;
● Ability to take the initiative to discover solutions to complex problems, develop and communicate project scope, objectives, milestones and plan, with little oversight from supervisor;
● Ability to be flexible and comfortable working in an environment where processes and timelines are fast paced and ever-changing;
● Ability to communicate using strong analytic, verbal and written communication skills;
● Considerable knowledge of effective professional learning practices and engaging adult learners, generally and specific to computer science education;
● Considerable knowledge of cooperative learning activities, interdisciplinary and modern teaching techniques, methods and practices;
● General knowledge of educational psychology;
● Proven ability to lead at a district or state level;
● Ability to analyze reports and test data and draw conclusions from that data;
● Ability to analyze and synthesize the impact of policies in education;
● Knowledge of technology and the ability to use it to maximize efficiency and services;
● Ability to travel to perform necessary job-related duties that further computer science education initiatives.
Candidates should have meaningful and current knowledge of computer science education and computer science education research, with proven ability to impact student outcomes. Experience and knowledge in the following areas are essential for success in the role of Director of Computer Science:
● Extensive knowledge of the Oklahoma Academic Standards for Computer Science, their progression K-12, and their relationship to research and national recommendations;
● Knowledge of current trends in computer science education, especially within curriculum development, and the impact those initiatives have on students and educators;
● Understanding of characteristics defining equitable education that is accessible by and relevant to every student;
● Knowledge of STEM initiatives and how computer science can be connected to and integrated into other subject areas, especially, but not limited to, grades K-8;
● Knowledge of current course offerings for computer science K-12 and their alignment to the Oklahoma Academic Standards for Computer Science.
Candidates should have demonstrated experience convening, organizing, and leading teams including peers and external stakeholders. Experience and knowledge in the following areas are essential for success in the role of Director of Computer Science:
● Knowledge and experience with project management, including overseeing budgets and meeting deliverables on predetermined timelines;
● Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory and effective working relationships with fellow employees, school officials, public school administrators, and the general public;
● Ability to express facts and opinions clearly and concisely;
● Ability to provide courteous, consistent, and efficient service through the performance of the prescribed job duties;
● Ability to design and facilitate productive workshops, convenings, and meetings with teachers, school administrators, and the general public;
● Ability to work in highly collaborative and interdependent teams;
● Ability to stay organized and updated on all content-area and shared projects, including the ability to collaborate with other directors and the Executive Director of STEM Education to identify and check-in on project milestones, ensure adherence to relevant laws and policies, and maintain accurate timelines of multiple projects.

● Direct the development of a long-term strategic plan for computer science education, in collaboration with the OSDE STEM team and development of a statewide STEM strategic plan;
● Coordinate resources, both internal and external, to initiate and manage several simultaneous projects with varying deadlines and fluid timetables; establish work flows and processes that are essential to project management and task completion;
● Oversee budgets and contracts associated with computer science education initiatives and maintain records and reports as required;
● Maintain up to date knowledge of all SDE initiatives and goals, i.e. TLE, state report card dashboard, STEM;
● Continuously work on STEM initiatives with the Executive Director of STEM Education and STEM team;
● Collaborate with other curriculum directors and other agencies on joint projects including but not limited to Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, Bootstrap Computer Science/Algebra Integration, data science initiatives, student assessment, STEM, school improvement, and federal projects;
● Collaborate/plan and implement large workshops and other events as well as evaluate the effectiveness of said events;
● Consult with and advise school administrators, counselors and educators on computer science education initiatives;
● Provide leadership statewide through sharing of best practices and encouraging new approaches to computer science education;
● Assist with the implementation of the Oklahoma Computer Science Standards; recommend methods, materials, teaching media and curricula to educators;
● Provide professional development opportunities in centralized, regional, and school-based locations, as well as through distance learning approaches;
● Represent the agency as a presenter/speaker/leader for educators, business and community organizations, etc.;
● Work with existing state and national groups, such as the Computer Science Teachers Association, to identify current trends and issues in regards to computer science education.

20% Travel required with occasional overnight stays
