Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving patrolling park/resort grounds and property and the enforcement of laws, rules and regulations within the assigned area of responsibility.  This includes insuring the safety and welfare of park/resort visitors and assigned staff.


The Park Ranger job family consists of four levels which are distinguished based on the complexity of assigned duties, the expertise required for various responsibilities and the responsibility assigned for providing leadership to others.

Level II:
This is the career level where employees are assigned responsibilities at the full performance level for patrolling assigned areas, protecting property and individuals, and enforcing applicable laws and rules as well as providing assistance to visitors.  Some responsibilities may be assigned for assisting in various administrative duties that are assigned at the leadership level and providing training or assistance to other park rangers as needed.


Level II:
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of ninety semester hours from an accredited college or university including eighteen hours in criminal justice, police science or other law enforcement with an Oklahoma Peace officer CLEET certification; or a seasonal ranger with an equivalent of three years’ experience in park law enforcement work with Oklahoma Peace officer CLEET certification; or three years experience in patrol law enforcement with Oklahoma Peace officer CLEET certification; or an equivalent combination of education and experience including Oklahoma Peace officer CLEET certification.


Applicants must possess a valid Oklahoma driver's license at the time of appointment; be willing to work irregular hours under any conditions; be in sound physical and psychological condition as evidenced through the Department of Tourism and Recreation screening process; successfully complete certification as a peace officer as defined in Title 70, Section 3311(F) O.S. 1981, within one year from date of employment; and successfully pass a rigid character and background investigation.
