#21-12-The Oklahoma Insurance Department has an opening in the Comptroller Division for an Accountant I. The salary for this position is $39,600. This position is open until filled.
Under general supervision of the Comptroller, this position is assigned responsibilities involving professional level work in the maintenance, auditing and management of financial accounting data. This includes the preparation and posting of various journals, ledgers and accounts, and assisting in preparation of financial reports, review and approval of various vouchers and invoices for payment, and other similar activities.
• Order and claim federal funds for payment of agency grant expenditures
• Process accounts payable including travel claims
• Process accounts receivable daily, prepare and record bank deposit, record chargebacks
• Process W-9 requests
• 1099 review and reporting
• Process security holding withdraw and deposit requests
• Prepare monthly reconciliation of accounts receivable and security holding filings
• Assist with audit requests
• Provide back up for agency administrative duties such as front desk reception, mailroom, and various other duties as assigned to the Comptroller Department
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Must have knowledge of accounting ledgers and journals; of computer technology related to accounting systems. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability is required to prepare basic financial reports; to review and analyze financial information; to maintain routine accounting data in appropriate ledgers and journals; and to review revenue and cost data for the preparation of month end reconciliation reports. Must possess ability to organize time effectively; to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers; to interpret and handle routine decisions in accordance with agency policy; and to follow oral and written instructions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Associate degree in accounting, business, finance, or a closely related field with a minimum of 6 hours of accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of bookkeeping for each year of the required degree.
Preference will be given to candidates who possess experience with PeopleSoft.

The selected applicant must pass a background check. Individual may be required to pursue NAIC designations as job duties require.
