The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS) is responsible for providing services to Oklahomans who are affected by mental illness and substance abuse. ODMHSAS strives to provide persistent, incremental improvements in the quality and effectiveness of treatment which results in a better recovery for more Oklahomans. Our state-operated facilities are commissioned to provide services that promote consumer empowerment, wellness, recovery, and integration in the community.
Tulsa Center for Behavioral Health (TCBH) is accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations and provides a supportive, safe and welcoming environment in which an array of integrated therapeutic interventions promotes an improved quality of life for consumers and the community. TCBH serves individuals eighteen years of age or older who present in a mental health crisis with or without substance abuse and are determined medically stable.

This position is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and conducting a therapy program and instruct or supervise consumer in recreational activities as part of a therapeutic psychiatric or medical treatment program.

Incumbents eligible to sit for the NCTRC national exam may apply. If accepted, persons must obtain certification within a six-month probationary period.
Full-time (8 hour shifts) $34,325.12 - $56,088.00

Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities for planning, organizing, directing and conducting client therapy programs and instruct or supervise clients in recreational activities as part of a therapeutic psychiatric or medical treatment program.
The Recreation Therapist job family consists of four levels of work which are distinguished by the depth and breadth of accountability, the expertise required to perform assigned duties and the responsibility assigned for providing leadership to others.
This is the specialist level where incumbents are assigned responsibilities for performing advanced level specialized duties in therapeutic recreation and may perform supervisory duties on a limited basis.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a master’s degree in recreational therapy, outdoor recreation or physical education and one year of experience in recreational therapy; OR a bachelor’s degree in recreational therapy, outdoor recreation or physical education and two years of experience in recreational therapy; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience; OR a bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation and certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC).
NOTE: Persons eligible to sit for the national exam provided by the NCTRC may apply and be selected, but must obtain certification within the six-month probationary period.
