Introduction

This position is responsible for developing, managing and installing multiple small to large exhibit and museum store projects ($500 to $500,000) for the various museums and historical sites for the Oklahoma Historical Society. 

Duties include but not limited to the following:
- Producing conceptual and final design documents and plans in Sketchup for exhibits and other construction projects for the agency.
- Evaluating project costs, creating budgets, monitoring and recording project expenses in excel.
- Creating, updating and managing schedules for the various projects in Smartsheet to meet production and grant deadlines.
- Estimating, bidding and tracking services, materials and supplies for projects.
- Consulting and coordinating with the exhibit team to meet design expectations and limitations.
- Assisting in the construction and installation of various exhibit components: artifacts, furnishings, AV, etc…
- Preparing SOW’s and bidding out outsourced components of the projects.
- Managing outsourced contractors including progress meetings and site inspections.
- Coordinating, tracking and assisting with all productions of graphics, digital interactives and videos.
- Creating and producing interpretive panels and digital graphics for the project with Adobe Suite and other developmental software.

Work and Travel:
This position is based out of the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City and requires travel and overnight stays up to 20% of the time depending on the projects. Limited telework options may be considered on a case by case basis and is subject to the supervisor’s discretion and approval of the appointing authority.

BASIC PURPOSE

Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving the planning, development and design of construction, renovation and repair projects within a state agency or institution or performs professional level work as a member of an architectural design team.  These projects will involve construction or building projects which have a total estimated cost which does not exceed the amount specified in 59 O.S. 1989 Section 46.3 or they may assist a licensed architect in the preparation of plans, specifications and designs for larger projects.  They will also inspect work in progress on minor projects and provide advice or assistance to contractors or employees in interpreting plans, specifications and blueprints.  They may supervise drafting technicians or other technical or clerical personnel.

LEVEL DESCRIPTORS

The Construction Designer job family consists of only one level and incumbent employees are responsible for performing all functions related to the position. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor's degree in architecture, construction management, environmental design or a closely related field and one year of experience in architectural design, architectural engineering, construction management or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
