The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry (ODAFF) is seeking a full time Dairy Inspector in the Food Safety Division. This is a classified position (PIN #04000629) in state government; position location will be determined upon hire within one of the following counties: Tulsa, Rogers or Mayes. This position will work under limited supervision of the Dairy Director. Responsibilities will include: inspecting assigned facilities, performing required technical equipment tests on pasteurization systems as needed, assisting FDA Regional Milk Specialist with inspections, certifications and records, collecting for submittal to appropriate laboratories for analysis, conduct sampling surveillance activities, provide training, field evaluations, and certifications of industry personnel for industry sealing of pasteurization equipment, conduct special investigations as necessary to include aflatoxin, pesticide, antibiotic residues, added water adulteration, and food-borne illness, investigate complaints and respond to public requests for information regarding milk and dairy products, along with maintaining files both physical and electronic.
Selected applicant must become a Registered Sanitarian with the Oklahoma Department of Health within one year of hire.
Must have and maintain a valid Oklahoma driver’s license.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This position requires frequent travel with occasional overnight stays. This position will work in various outdoor settings which may require traveling across uneven grounds, the ability to ascends/descends ladders to and may be required transport up to 50 pounds on occasion.

This includes performing inspections, surveys, and investigations, reviewing and approving federal grants, providing consultative services, and ensuring compliance with environmental laws. Specialty areas may include biology, health, geology, hydrology, and environmental science.
The Environmental Programs Specialist job family has four levels which are distinguished by the complexity of assignments, the level of expertise required to perform the duties assigned, and the responsibility for providing leadership to others.
This is the basic level of this job family where employees are assigned duties and responsibilities in a training status to build their skills in conducting investigations, performing basic professional analysis, and interpreting state and federal laws. In this role they will perform tasks involved in the evaluation of inspection and survey data, preparing technical records and reports, and assisting in making recommendations concerning remedial actions to correct environmental or water problems.
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree with at least 24 semester hours in a physical, natural, or biological science, chemistry, geology, hydrology, physical geography, epidemiology, environmental science, environmental health or civil, agricultural, environmental, geological or chemical engineering.
