OSDH is seeking a full time Tobacco Cessation Specialist providing support to McCurtain County Health Department. This is an unclassified position (PIN #34003380) in state government, located in Idabel, OK. OSDH offers a comprehensive Benefits Packageincluding a generous benefit allowance to offset the cost of insurance premiums for employees and their eligible dependents.  For more information about the benefit allowance [click here]. Job Description:
The Consultant will ensure the tobacco clinical best practice guidelines and internal policies are adhered to. The consultant will assist in promotion and utilization of the Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline via clinic referral as well as serve as the primary point of contact in regards to tobacco cessation efforts within the assigned counties/region.  The consultant will assess the current systems within the clinic setting as well as identified areas for quality improvement.

Duties include but are not limited to:
• Serve as a content expert in tobacco cessation best practices to provider education and behavioral modification including motivational interviewing, stages of change and cognitive behavioral therapy.
• Work with assigned clinics to ensure evidence based tobacco dependence treatment is being provided to all patients being seen within the clinic.
• Provide system level assessments within the clinic to determine quality improvement processes in regards to tobacco cessation.
• Work with  district leadership to adhere to grant deliverables and objectives
• Provide technical assistance in regard to tobacco treatment, including referrals to the Oklahoma Tobacco Helpline.
• Utilize county specific data to assess effectiveness of tobacco cessation.
• Report monthly on progress of the project to ensure deliverables are being met
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of tobacco control best practices for treating tobacco dependence.  Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.  Possess strong planning skills and the ability to accomplish goals and objectives in a timely manner.  Strong intrapersonal and problem-solving skills.  The ability to make presentations to staff and partners as needed.  Ability to understand basic public health principles such as policy and system level changes.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree and current RN License.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree or a bachelors in public health or community health; Minimum of one year’s experience in project management or quality improvement process.

This position is set in an office environment.  While performing the duties of the job, employees are frequently required to stand, walk, lift, and reach.  Applicants must be willing to perform all job-related travel associated with this position.
