Unclassified Job Descriptor

Basic Purpose:
Positions in this job are responsible for researching, writing, and editing various materials on behalf of the department.

Typical Functions:
• Responsible for drafting press releases, interoffice memorandums, formal letters, and other written documents.
• Responsible for verifying factual correctness of information
• Checks text to ensure it is well written, logically structured, and in the correct style for the intended audience.
• Proofreads text and corrects spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors in documents, PowerPoint presentations, and brochures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of English usage, including grammar, composition and editing techniques; of accepted styles for materials released to various media; of various social and web media outlets; and of the department's objectives. 

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective interpersonal working relationships with others; and communicating effectively, both orally and in writing. 

Ability to write and edit; gather and organize pertinent data; and to manage multiple projects and deadlines; and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Education and Experience:

Minimum Qualifications: 
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, marketing, or a related field and two (2) years of experience in a field related to writing and editing.
