The Oklahoma Tax Commission is seeking a full-time unclassified General Counsel. The Tax Commission offers a comprehensive benefits package and a competitive annual salary, based upon education and experience.

Position Summary
The lawyer chosen for this position will assume many functions of leadership, planning, organizing and monitoring legal activities of the Office of General Counsel with approximately thirty (30) attorneys and staff. The General Counsel also provides legal counsel and assistance to the Tax Commission and the various divisions of the agency.

Position Responsibilities
The specific functions of this position vary, but may include the following:
• Analyzes complex factual and legal issues mainly related to the Oklahoma Tax Code and assists in the preparation of legal opinions, memorandums of fact and law and other legal documents.
• Assists in the development, preparation and presentation of cases before administrative, state, federal and appellate courts.
• Evaluates complex tax issues and provides counsel and assistance to the agency.
• The General Counsel will be expected to work with minimal supervision, independent judgment and initiative in legal issues large in scope, complexity and activity. The General Counsel will also lead and support other lawyers and staff.

Minimum Qualifications
• Accredited law school graduate.
• Licensed to practice law in the State of Oklahoma.

Preferred Qualifications
• At least five years of experience practicing law and strong communication skills.
• Experience specifically related to the Oklahoma Tax Code and various tax types which include income, ad valorem, gross production, motor vehicle, sales and use tax.
