BASIC PURPOSE OF POSITION
Install, Repair, troubleshoot and maintain refrigeration various types of HVAC systems located in Agency owned buildings across the state.
Performs highly skilled refrigeration and air conditioning and auxiliary equipment work, such as refrigerant compressors, condensers, pumps, cooling towers, electrical and pneumatic control systems, fans, humidifiers, electronic filter, air compressors, electric motors, heat exchangers and miscellaneous valves and pipes carrying refrigerant, water, air and gas. Performs related work as required or assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA's)
Knowledge and understanding of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in refrigeration, air conditioning and heating work; of standard refrigeration, air conditioning, and heating techniques; and of job safety measures. Knowledge of the principles of the refrigeration, air conditioning and heating trade; of occupational hazards of the trade. Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations governing the planning, installation, repair, and maintenance of refrigeration, air conditioning and heating; and of supervisory principles and practices. Knowledge of local, state, and national refrigeration, air conditioning and heating codes and life safety codes; of fire marshal regulations; and a basic knowledge and understanding of how to read and interpret blueprints.
Ability to run large, complex jobs. Ability is required to supervise others and to keep records and write reports. Ability to perform shop work (pipe lifting, electrical repair and sheet metal work) as required; to plan work and supervise the activities of unskilled and semi-skilled helpers. Good manual dexterity and physical endurance to include the ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, etc.; work in high spaces, high noise areas, and/or in confined spaces; withstand extreme temperatures; constant standing, kneeling, crouching, squatting, twisting, pushing and pulling; work with hand tools (up to 25 pounds) in positions above or below head; lift, carry, position and use tools and/or equipment (weighing up to 50 pounds) in awkward positions; withstand frequent jarring of the body caused by performance of duties; 150 pound lifting capacity; 100 pound push/pull capacity; and 50 pound carrying capacity, all on a frequent basis.
Applicants must have 5 years experience as a licensed journeyman and must be licensed as a journeyman refrigeration mechanic in accordance with the Construction Industries Board in HVAC Unlimited, Process Piping and Refrigeration and Natural Gas Piping and have EPA certification for Type II Refrigerant Transition and Recovery.
A conditional offer of employment to final candidate will be contingent upon a favorable background check and a substance abuse screening.

This is a full-time unclassified state position with full state retirement and insurance benefits, including paid health, dental, life, and disability insurance. Annual leave of 10 hours per month and sick leave of 10 hours per month begin accruing immediately.
This position may be filled at the alternate level of the JFD depending upon the qualifications of the recommended applicant.
