For the purposes of the Correctional Security Officer Job Family statutory requirements include (Title 57, O.S. Section 510), "A. the minimum age for service shall be twenty (20) years of age and the maximum age for service shall be seventy (70) years of age.  However, the director shall have the authority to establish the maximum age for correctional officers entering service and B. possession of thirty (30) semester hours from an accredited college or university or possession of a high school diploma acquired from an accredited high school or GED equivalent testing program and graduation from the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training or enrollment in and completion of said course during the first six (6) months of employment..."

A career as a Correctional Security Officer with the Oklahoma Department of Corrections (DOC) has many benefits, including paid health, dental, and life insurance, paid sick and annual leave, paid holidays, and a 20-year retirement plan.

There are, however, many job requirements that applicants need to be aware of when considering a career as a Correctional Security Officer.  Correctional Security Officers and their supervisors understand that the situations on the following list will be encountered and that Correctional Security Officers are required to perform the associated job duties.

The Department of Corrections is strongly committed to providing a safe working environment for all its employees.  All Correctional Security Officers will be required to complete a paid six-week training program designed to guide and assist them in performing these duties safely and appropriately.

I am willing to work and supervise inmates in housing units, yards, lock-up, dining hall, perimeter, laundry, kitchen, maintenance or any other post as assigned.

I am willing to stay at my post during emergency situations, such as fires and inclement weather, until cleared to leave by my supervisor.

I am willing to attend a six-week, agency-sponsored, Correctional Security Officer training academy which may include overnight stays.  (For any required overnight stays, lodging and associated meals will be provided at the Department's expense.  Academy training will include physical conditioning and successful completion of a basic self-defense course.)
