Introduction

This position is located in the ID Unit within the Information Services Division at OSBI Headquarters in Oklahoma City.

MAJOR WORK DUTIES:
1.Forensic analysis of incoming criminal and civilian fingerprint cards using the Automated Fingerprint Identification System. 
2.Fingerprint person for civilian purposes.
3.Complete weekly and monthly reports.
4.Search fingerprints using the Henry System and NCIC Classification System.

BASIC PURPOSE

The positions within this job family are assigned responsibilities involving the management of the 10-print portion of Oklahoma Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).  These responsibilities involve various complex technical functions related to the forensic analysis of fingerprint impressions through the electronic and manual processing of fingerprint submissions to maintain the integrity and accuracy of the fingerprint database for the State of Oklahoma.  Fingerprint Specialists perform difficult, non-routine fingerprint image examination, interpretation, classification, analysis and identification and apply the laws, rules and standards governing this process.

LEVEL DESCRIPTORS

The Fingerprint Specialist job family consists of four levels which are distinguished based on the complexity of the assignments, skills required to complete specific assignments, and responsibility for the supervision of others.

Level III: 
This is the specialist level where employees are assigned responsibilities for highly complex, technical work in the forensic examination, interpretation, classification, analysis and identification of fingerprint impressions through manual or automated systems. This will include the most complex and difficult of examinations. Employees at this level may assist in the training of lower level employees and may function as a lead worker.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Level III:
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree plus two (2) years of experience in the forensic examination, classification and identification of fingerprints manually and with the use of an AFIS or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of professional or technical administrative experience in a criminal justice or forensic science field for each year of the required education.

NOTE: Technical administrative experience includes but is not limited to the processing of criminal arrest records or the maintaining of criminal evidence and the listed experience must have been the primary job responsibility to be considered as qualifying.
