#20-05-The Oklahoma Insurance Department has an opening in the Comptroller Division for an Accountant II. The salary for this position is $39,600. This position is open until filled.

Under general supervision of the Comptroller, this position is assigned responsibilities involving professional level work in the maintenance, auditing and management of financial accounting data. This includes the preparation and posting of various journals, ledgers and accounts, and assisting in preparation of financial reports, review and approval of various vouchers and invoices for payment, and other similar activities.

• Order and claim federal funds for payment of agency grant expenditures
• Process invoices payable with grant funding
• Receive Request for Expenditures, (RFE’s), and invoices for agency grant programs for review
• Accurately document, reconcile, and track agency grant expenditures
• Research and resolve issues and inquiries pertaining to grants
• Prepare and submit quarterly, semi-annual, annual, and close-out financial reports to federal agency
• Prepare monthly expenditure reports provided to Grants Director and attend meetings as requested
• Assist with audit requests
• Provide back up for agency wide daily deposits, accounts payable, securities for safekeeping deposits/withdraws, and various other duties as assigned to the Comptroller Department

Must have knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and theories; of financial statements and reports; of accounting ledgers and journals; of computer technology related to accounting systems; and of budget preparation. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Ability is required to prepare basic financial statements and reports; to review and analyze financial information; to maintain routine accounting data in appropriate ledgers and journals; and to review revenue and cost data for the preparation of budget work programs.  Must possess ability to organize time effectively; to establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external customers; to interpret and handle routine decisions in accordance with agency policy; and to follow oral and written instructions.

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance or a closely related field with a minimum of 12 hours of accounting.

NOTE: Upon hire, any applicant who is licensed as a producer/agent, adjuster or is otherwise affiliated with any entity that is regulated by the department must surrender their license and terminate any financial or non-financial affiliation with the entity that is regulated by the department. The selected applicant must pass a background check. Individual may be required to pursue NAIC designations as job duties require.
