Position:  District Chief

Division:  Law Enforcement

Location:  District Five (5) – Must currently reside in or relocate to the District.

Salary:  $52,348.00 Min - $67,397.00 Mid* *Yearly plus excellent state benefits (No change in salary or grade for a lateral transfer.)

Summary of Job Duties:
An opportunity exists for Game Wardens, Game Warden Supervisors and District Chiefs, presently in the employment of the Department, to apply for a transfer and/or promotion for the above opening. No change in salary or grade for a lateral transfer.

Under the general supervision of the Assistant Chief of Law Enforcement, within an assigned district of the state, containing 8 - 12 counties, the incumbent will plan, organize, motivate, and direct a large group of Game Wardens through intermediate supervisors and directly supervise the Game Warden Lieutenants.

Will be responsible for overseeing the enforcement of the wildlife and fish laws of the State of Oklahoma.  Will also be responsible for reviewing policies, procedures and programs, and developing new programs for the Division and District.  May oversee the District’s budget.  May be required to perform other duties assigned by the Assistant Chief or Chief.

Must have the ability to:
• Walk along creeks, lake banks, through brush or over rip rap.
• Drive over rough back roads for extensive periods.
• Haul stringers or net loads of fish into boat or onto shore.
• Lift/carry and/or pull deer or other carcasses of animals into and out of pickup or through the woods to a vehicle.
• Drive 2/4 wheel vehicles, including ATVs.
• Operate a boat, carry an outboard motor.
• Jog/walk over rough terrain and swim.
• Physically control and arrest law violators.
• Speak effectively to individuals and groups.
• Work in extreme weather conditions and work extended hours and weekends.
• Travel with possible overnight stays.

Bachelor’s Degree in Wildlife or Fisheries Management, or equivalent field of study from an accredited college or university.  For degrees other than wildlife or fisheries a minimum of twelve (12) credit hours in wildlife related courses is required. 

You must attach a copy of your transcript to be considered for this position. 

If hired prior to 1995, eight (8) years’ experience as a Game Warden may substitute for the educational requirement.

Requires nine (9) years of previous related experience. At least two (2) years’ experience must include supervisory responsibility.


A Master’s Degree with seven (7) years of related experience of which two (2) years’ experience must include supervisory responsibility.  Please include a transcript with your application. 

Knowledge and Skills (required):
Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of word processing. Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.  Must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
