Job Duties
Perform welding and machine shop work for equipment by fabrication or replacing parts.  Operate and maintain shop equipment in a safe competent manner according to guidelines set by state and manufactures specifications.  Work on equipment in the shop, field, or on the road as assigned by the shop superintendent or personnel.

BASIC PURPOSE

Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving welding work in the construction, repair and maintenance of state equipment and facilities.

LEVEL DESCRIPTORS

The Welder job family consists of three levels which are distinguished based on the duties assigned, the expertise required to perform assigned work, and the responsibility assigned for providing supervision to others. 

Level II:                                   
At this level employees are assigned responsibilities involving highly skilled maintenance and repair welding work, which may include operating machine tools such as milling machines and metal lathes in order to mend and fabricate replacement parts, and providing supervision to other skilled, semiskilled or unskilled personnel engaged in performing welding duties.  In this role, they will plan, organize and control the work being done within general guidelines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Level II:                                 
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of four years of experience in skilled welding work; or an equivalent combination of education/training and experience in the welding trade.
