Position:  Wildlife Technician

Location:  Statewide – location of domicile must be approved by supervisor

Salary:  $35,443.00/Yearly

Summary of Job Duties:
Under the supervision of the Biologist, will assist with planning, developing, and delivering the Oklahoma Hunter and Angler Access Program on private land. Maintain buildings, grounds, and equipment. Provide information and assistance, and interpret program policy, to program participants (landowners and sportsmen), including presentations in a variety of public settings. Maintain complete and accurate daily records and prepare required reports. May participate in the inter-divisional training program to better assist with other division projects. Negotiate and execute contracts with landowners.  Install and maintain boundary signs on properties enrolled in the program.  Routinely patrol and monitor areas and maintain as needed.  Assist with distribution and analysis of user and landowner surveys.  Will have extensive contact with a variety of public and private individuals and groups. May perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. 

Must have the ability to:
• Operate boats, motor vehicles, lawn mowers, tractors, and ATVs with various attachments; including but not limited to dump trucks, winch trucks, and flatbed trucks.
• Operate and use firearms, rifles, shotguns, and handguns, cutting torch and welding equipment.
• Lift, carry, and use fencing materials, lumber, building material, hand tools, chain saw, and fire suppressing equipment.
• Ability to push/pull a minimum of 50 pounds to hook up trailers, load boats, and various other equipment. 
• Lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds for a distance of 100 yards.
• Walk and jog over rough terrain for extended periods of time.
• Must be able to swim.
• Work alone in remote areas.
• Endure various extremes of outdoor weather conditions.
• Work extended hours, weekends, and stay overnight out of town.
• Handle wild animals in live and dead condition, including field dressing wild game
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships, work independently, and be professional and courteous with the public and other agencies. 
• Communicate clearly and effectively in public speaking situations and be able to express oneself clearly and concisely in writing. 
• Operate and use small and hand held equipment and supplies. 
• Use personal computer and office equipment. 
• Operate and use field traps, survey gear and lab equipment. 
• Conduct day/night audio and visual surveys. 

Minimum of two (2) years college training in wildlife management or closely related field. Four (4) years’ experience in a wildlife technician conservation position may substitute for education requirements.

One (1) year related experience. A total of five (5) years’ experience is required in lieu of education requirement above. A completed Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Management or related field may substitute for the experience requirement.

Knowledge and Skills: 
• Thorough knowledge of capabilities and use of medium to heavy contractual farming equipment.
• Knowledge and competence in use of small hand tools and carpentry tools.
• Knowledge of techniques used in wildlife surveys and inventories and all aspects of agriculture practices.
• Skill in exercising good judgment in analyzing situations and making decisions.
• Be proficient in use of computers and various software applications.
