Location: Oklahoma City

Under the general supervision of an Environmental/Chemical Laboratory Scientist IV, performs routine logging-in, preparation, and discarding of feeds, fertilizers, meats and agricultural limes.  Maintains traceability logs of all samples entering and exiting the laboratory.  Responsible for maintaining a safe and clean work environment, routine maintenance on equipment, ensuring quality protocols are followed and maintaining good laboratory practices.  Performs technician-level analysis on feeds, fertilizers, and limes as directed.

Special working conditions/requirements:
will be required to spend the majority of most days standing in place while performing routine tasks such as operating riffling and grinding equipment.  Will be required to wear personal protective equipment, including, but not limited to, hearing protection, eye protection, PAPR (Powered Air Purifying Respirator), and a lab coat (or similar body-protection) during the majority of most days .

50% Prepares feed, fertilizer, meat and agricultural lime samples for use using appropriate methods, including, but not limited to, riffling and grinding of samples. 

20% Performs technician-level analysis on feeds, fertilizers, and limes using approved gravimetric methods

15% Cleans and maintains work area, including, but not limited to, sweeping, wiping counters and equipment, changing air filters in equipment, team-lifting equipment (approximately 50 pounds), and washing sample jars.

10% Receives and assesses the condition of samples, assigns and maintains traceability data of samples, and discards samples.

5% Other duties related to general laboratory work as assigned by the supervisor and/or Assistant Division Director.


Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities for supporting laboratory operations, performing maintenance functions and completing non-technical routine laboratory tests and procedures under the direction of professional staff.


The Laboratory Technician job family consists of three levels which are distinguished based on the complexity of the duties performed and the level of expertise required to perform assigned duties and the responsibilities assigned for providing leadership to others.

Level II:   
This is the career level where incumbents are fully qualified to perform a variety of routine laboratory tests and procedures using standard testing procedures and assists more experienced personnel in performing more complex testing procedures.


Level II:    
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of one year of experience in laboratory work performing laboratory procedures; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one college-level laboratory science course for each six months of the required experience.
