OSDH is seeking a full time MDS/OASIS Registered Nurse Consultant providing support to the Human Resources Development Service with the Oklahoma Department of Health Department. This is an grant funded unclassified position (PIN#34002243) in state government, located in Oklahoma City, OK.OSDH offers a comprehensive Benefits Package, including a generous benefit allowance to offset the cost of insurance premiums for employees and their eligible dependents. This position will consult with and train providers and OSDH surveyors on clinical aspects of assessment instruments that evaluate the physical, psychosocial and functional condition of residents in nursing facilities and clients of home health agencies. The person in this position will also be involved in training on CMS initiatives and promoting the highest practicable level of resident health and safety.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
The functions of this position include the following.
• Educates providers in the methodology of the Minimum Data Set (MDS) used to assess nursing facility residents and the Outcome and Assessment Information Set (OASIS) used to assess home health agency clients; this includes content, preparation, organization and delivery of such information.
• Participates in evaluation of services provided by the Division through the quality assurance program.
• Serves as a consultant to health care administrators and professional health care staff in developing and improving quality of care for patients according to state and federal regulations and professional standards of practice.
• Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement studies or projects designed to improve patient care outcomes and quality of services.
• Confers with federal, state and community agencies and professional organizations concerned with health care.
• Collaborates with other professionals in the management of health care and quality assurance and quality improvement initiatives.
Education and Experience
Requirements at this level consist of possession of a valid permanent Oklahoma license as a registered nurse as approved by the Oklahoma Board of Nursing, a bachelor’s degree and four years of professional nursing experience. Each additional year of professional nursing experience may substitute for one year of educational requirements.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Required at this level include knowledge of the principles, practices, and ethics of professional nursing and disease prevention; of assessment standards and techniques; of medical supplies and terminology; of levels of acute and rehabilitative treatment; of various disabilities and illnesses; of adult education methods; and, of basic computer software applications. Ability is required to interpret and apply state/federal regulations and policy, to analyze and interpret various health care needs; to conduct public speaking and/or training to licensed health care professionals and the general public; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing in a logical, clear, concise and complete manner; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Knowledge of current office technologies, which allows the entering and retrieval of information using a personal computer, is required for this position.
Previous MDS, OASIS, and/or Electronic Health Records (EHR) experience.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Work is typically performed in an office setting with a climate controlled settings and exposure to moderate noise level. While performing the duties of the job, employee is required to talk, stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. This position requires long period of sitting and daily use of computer and phone. Travel may be required.
