Location: Oklahoma School for the Blind - Muskogee
Applicant must possess knowledge of and uphold local, state, and federal laws and policies. Act decisively and without direct supervision in varying situations, including situations involving an element of personal danger or danger to others. Perform investigations based on intuition and sound judgment. Patrols school campus to eliminate hazards, vandalism or other area of responsibility. Directs police, fire and other emergency vehicles; provides assistance to authorities in the handling or investigation of fires, vandalism and drug search. Produce and maintains legible necessary records and reports. Plan and direct law enforcement programs; coordinates law enforcement activities within assigned areas of responsibility.
Shift hours will vary.
Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver License.
Must successfully complete a National Criminal History Records Check.
Probationary period (or trial period if applicable) is required.

Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving law enforcement duties at a state agency, institution or facility. This will include conducting patrols in an assigned area or location to enforce laws and rules and provide protection for individuals and property within the assigned area of responsibility.
The Police Officer job family consists of five levels that are distinguished based on the level of responsibility assigned, the expertise required to complete assigned duties and the responsibility assigned for providing supervision to others.
This is the basic level of this job family where employees receive formal classroom training and other training in law enforcement operations and procedures, state and federal laws, self defense, firearms training, and other required areas and perform entry level duties involving police work under close supervision.
Education and Experience: None required.
a. Must be willing and able to complete all job-related travel normally associated with the position.
b. Must complete the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training course within twelve months of employment or have previously completed this training.
c. Must successfully complete a National Agency check for the purpose of gaining access to restricted areas and/or obtaining a security clearance.
d. Must maintain a physical fitness standard that will allow them to perform the duties of the position.
e. Must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver License at the time of employment.
Positions within the Office of Juvenile Affairs will require the following:
a. Applicants must be willing and able to work overtime and to work on shifts.
b. Employees are required to stand and walk for prolonged periods and to have the ability to physically restrain residents using approved restraint techniques.
c. Applicants must be able to lift 50 pounds.
d. Employees must pass all training requirements for sole supervision of residents, i.e., first aid certification, CPR and restraint training.
