Monthly Salary: Background Investigator III: $3,534.94

INTRODUCTION:

BASIC PURPOSE OF POSITION:
This position is responsible for the evaluation of criminal history reports which includes information from various state and national resources. Information attained is independently evaluated to determine if the individual is prohibited from employment in the child care facility or a child welfare placement.  The purpose of this is to ensure compliance with child care provider background checks and child welfare requirements.

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for independently researching and evaluating criminal history records and child welfare records, making determinations, interviewing individuals regarding dispositions, maintaining relationships with local law enforcement and other state agencies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA's):
Required to include knowledge of sources, tools and services used in securing and evaluating data; of maintaining a computerized data management system; of investigative and interview techniques; of the conduct of pre-employment background investigations and criminal history searches; of agency policies and procedures; and of technical report writing. Ability is required to conduct several investigations simultaneously; to gather and analyze sensitive employment data; to organize and manage a computerized information system; to organize and present facts clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; to handle confidential work with tact and discretion; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships, plus the ability to perform highly independent work, be able to establish priorities and to respond to questions from other officials on policy and procedure.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor's degree and two years of professional business or public administration experience in business or public administration; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of qualifying experience for each year of the required education.

*Technical administrative experience would include highly complex clerical work gained under the direct supervision of a professional supervisor or manager.

NOTES:
A conditional offer of employment to final candidate will be contingent upon a favorable background check and a substance abuse screening.

BENEFITS
This is a full-time unclassified state position with full state retirement and insurance benefits, including paid health, dental, life, and disability insurance. Annual leave of 10 hours per month and sick leave of 10 hours per month begin accruing immediately.

Special Requirements
Applicants must be willing and able to fulfill all job-related travel normally associated with this position.

Applicants for the Department of Human Services must be willing to be on-call twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week and to work extended hours and weekends as required.

The working hours for this position are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday thru Friday or 2:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Monday thru Friday.  Candidate may be required to be on call for nights and weekends.
