BASIC PURPOSE OF POSITION
Under the general supervision performs skilled plumbing work in the installation, alteration, maintenance and repairs of plumbing systems, fixtures, and related equipment in various state agencies and institutions; provides onsite supervision/training to plumbing apprentices in accordance with requirements of the Construction Industries Board and to lower level Journeyman Plumbers.
Performs skilled work in the installation, alteration, repair and maintenance of sewer, water, gas, steam and air lines; chilled/heated water lines; and various plumbing fixtures such as sinks, lavatories, automatic flush valves, etc. Installs, alters, repairs and maintains various equipment utilizing water, steam, air, hydraulic fluid lines and waste disposal lines. Installs industrial size air conditioning and heating systems, pipe and valves. Installs, alters, repairs and maintains fire protection sprinkler systems and irrigation systems. Removes old plumbing systems, fixtures, pipes, and other fixtures and equipment for construction purposes; operates heavy equipment to include skid steer loader, trencher, backhoe, front end loader, etc. Coordinates job requirements with other crafts on large projects; provides on-site supervision & training to plumbing apprentices and lower level Journeyman Plumbers. Performs related work as required and assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSA's)
Knowledge of the methods, materials, fixtures, tools and equipment used in plumbing work; of standard plumbing techniques; and of job safety. Knowledge of the principles of the plumbing trade; of occupational hazards of the trade. Knowledge of laws, rules and regulations governing the planning, installation, repair, and maintenance of plumbing; and the supervisory principles and practices. Knowledge of local, state and national plumbing codes and life safety codes; of fire marshal regulations; and basic knowledge and understanding of how to read and interpret blueprints.
Ability to run large complex jobs. Ability is required to supervise others and to keep and write reports. Good manual dexterity and physical endurance to include the ability to climb ladders, scaffolding, etc.; work in high spaces, high noise areas, and/or in confined spaces; withstand extreme temperatures: constant standing, kneeling, crouching, squatting, twisting, crawling, pushing and pulling; maneuver in mud and other adverse conditions; climb in and out of ditches; work with hand tools (up to 25lbs) in position above or below head; lift, carry, position and use tools and/or equipment (weighing up to 50lbs) in awkward positions. 150lbs lifting capacity; 100 pounds push/pull capacity; and 50 pound carrying capacity, all on a regular basis.
Applicants must be a licensed Journeyman Plumber with the Construction Industries Board and have 4 years’ experience as a licensed Plumber.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATE Journeyman license.
