Position Title/Code/Level: School Counselor, 1516

Location: Oklahoma School for the Deaf – Sulphur, OK

Annual Salary Range: Up to $51,971

Essential Functions:
The counselor promotes student success, provides preventive services, and responds to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive developmental school counseling program that addresses academic, career, and personal/social development of high school grade students. Develops and manages a comprehensive school counseling program for all students (PK -12th). Delivers the counseling curriculum to all students focusing on Personal/Social Domains. Designs, delivers, evaluates and revises a planned sequential developmentally appropriate programs needs of all students. Counsels with students to promote self-awareness, self-identity, and positive social and academic skills. Manages activities that establish, maintain, support and enhance the total school counseling system. Plans and coordinates programs that are an extension of the counseling program, i.e., Individual Education Plans, Child Study Team, red ribbon week, bullying awareness week, etc.
Probationary period (or trial period if applicable) is required.

Education and Experience Requirements:
Minimum of a Master’s Degree in School Counseling, State of Oklahoma Teacher’s Certificate or qualifications to meet certification. Certification in Counseling from the Oklahoma Department of Education. Preference may be given to applicants with expressive and receptive sign language skills with fluency in American Sign Language and counseling experience.
Selective Qualifications: An expressive and receptive sign language skill with fluency in American Sign Language.

Annual salary is commensurate with education and years of experience; Master’s degree: $37,991.00 to $51,971.00. Employees are provided paid health, dental, life and retirement benefits as well as an option to participate in the State’s tax-deferred annuity program. Counselor will report 5 days before teachers start and will work 5 days after teachers are dismissed for the year.
