Under direction of the Executive Director of School Safety and Security and the OK CARES Grant, the specialist will lead LEA’s in development and execution of comprehensive Emergency Operation Plans.  This role will include researching, developing, planning, evaluating, implementing and maintaining programs and services in compliance with established federal guidelines and the outline and scope of the grant award.

• Bachelor’s Degree {transcript required} preferred in related field, teacher or CLEET certification, and five years of relevant experience. 

PLEASE NOTE: This position is funded through a federally awarded grant that will expire on September 30, 2023. It is the goal of the Oklahoma State Department of Education to apply for additional funding opportunities as they become available.

• Knowledge of current educational trends; expertise in communication and administrative skills; federal and state teaching certification laws, and public relations;
• Knowledge of technology and ability to use it to maximize efficiency and services;
• Ability to work with others in positive, creative teams; and willingness to make difficult decisions and take risks;
• Applicants must be willing and able to perform job-related travel;
• Ability to assume responsibility and authority and to delegate same;
• Conscientious commitment and willingness to provide courteous, consistent, efficient service through the performance of the prescribed job duties.

• Assist in the development and practice drills for Emergency Operation Plans for LEAs.
• Coordinate and conduct training for school personnel, including workshops, refresher courses on current laws, regulations and District policies to provide clear expectations and support professional growth.
• Train, supervise and assist in evaluating the performance of assigned personnel.
• Assist with timely and thorough investigation of incidents, vandalism and thefts and report criminal activity; meet with faculty, administrators and other personnel, as needed; schedule meetings with SROs on a regular basis to provide clear expectations and ensure comprehension of tasks assigned.
• Participate in discussion committees with individual students, families and school staff for the purpose of channeling student activities into acceptable behavior, good attendance and academic achievement.
• Assist in directing emergency situations (e.g.; lock downs, fire drills, etc.) at schools.
• Maintain current knowledge of codes, rules and regulations related to school safety; develop and maintain operational and procedural manuals related to safety activities.
• Establish positive and collaborative working relationships with District staff, students, families and the public.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Working conditions will be primarily that of an office environment with occasional duties outside.

Frequent travel with occasional overnight stays.
