Salary: The bi-weekly hiring rate established for this position is $1,473.88.

This position will intervene in the spread of HIV, syphilis and other STD's and will be considered a Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) in training for the first two years. As a DIS in training, this position will shadow other seasoned DIS as they locate and interview patients and their sexual partners to gather information on infections and or exposure to HIV and STD.

Duties include, but are not limited to:
• Recommend testing and screening and referring positive patients to care.
• Consult with private and public providers to obtain information on treated cases.
• Assist in statewide screening programs to ensure timely reporting of findings.
• Conduct routine investigations.
• Gather information concerning the treatment of various diseases including syphilis and HIV.
• Assist in the completion of other program activities related to the prevention and control of sexually transmitted diseases.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required at this level include knowledge of various types of sexually transmitted diseases; of state and federal laws concerning the treatment and reporting of sexually transmitted infections or exposure to sexually transmitted diseases; of medical and epidemiological aspects of diseases; of laboratory procedures used in the diagnosis of disease or infections; and of the principles of interviewing and training.  Ability is required to work with groups and individuals; to provide information concerning sexually transmitted diseases; and to interview and gather information.

Education and Work Experience:
Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree in a biological science, health science, social science, or a closely related field OR four years of experience in performing duties such as public health inspections and investigations, preventive health programs, or as a public health nurse OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Title 74, 840-5.5. (A)(4) - Persons employed with one-time, limited duration, federal or other grant funding that is not continuing or indefinitely renewable.  The length of the unclassified employment shall not exceed the period of time for which that specific federal funding is provided.
