We are seeking a full time, unclassified Accountant for Accounts Receivables for OMES-Finance team in Oklahoma City. OMES-Finance provides service to all departments/divisions within OMES. This is a full time unclassified position in state government. The Accountant primarily performs duties involving technical and administrative support related to either the Accounts Receivable or the Accounts Payable function. This may include independent responsibility and performing specialized accounting tasks which are large in scope with several phases of accounting activity.
For Accounts Receivable, it could include preparing and recording deposits in PeopleSoft Accounts Receivable module; credit card payment receipting; daily remote deposit capture check scanning; customer service inquires; payment research; preparing and analyzing reports concerning financial operations; daily deposit reconciliations; preparation of appropriate accounting entries; maintain and resolve help desk cases within standard time requirements; and other job duties as assigned.
For Accounts Payable, it could include processing of various transactions for payment of invoices or expense vouchers, maintaining all accounting records; reviewing P-Card transactions for accuracy; verifying encumbrances before a voucher is created; verifying correct funding, accounting/object code, fiscal year, and proper purchase order information; and other job duties as assigned.
This is a team oriented position and requires a high level of communication with team members by email, phone, and personal interactions. This position also requires a strong attention to detail.
The Accountant must be able to perform the position responsibilities and must also be able to receive correspondence from physical mail, electronic delivery service, telephone, or in person; interpret the request and process request in the appropriate system or software. Must be able to sit at computer work station for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to key and type data accurately into the State’s financial software as well as standard computer programs.
Clerical duties as assigned and as needed; to include processing incoming mail, maintaining files, scanning files, and sorting. Attend meetings and present client information in an open forum.
Education and experience preferred at this level consists of a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of qualifying experience for each year of the required degree. Must have at least an intermediate level of knowledge in Microsoft Excel.
Valued Skills and Experience
Preference may be given to candidates with:
• PeopleSoft experience or experience with another Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system
• Microsoft Office Applications: Excel, Outlook, Access and Word
• Typing speed of greater than 30 words per minute
