Positions in this job family are responsible for performing highly skilled duties in the operation of both single and multi-engine aircraft for such activities as executive travel, aerial collection of planning data, aerial photography of roads, streets and highways, aerial hunting or other low-level aerial activities.
TYPICAL FUNCTIONS
Transports state officials to and from various locations in single or multi-engine aircraft or helicopter.
• Pilots aircraft in all phases of low altitude road inventory activities, survey and observation functions.
• Pilots helicopter in low altitude flights to conduct aerial hunting activities.
• Supervises the collection of all types of planning data from the air.
• Determines alternate work areas when weather in assigned area does not permit operation.
• Performs pre-flight planning such as pre-flight inspection of aircraft or helicopter and checking weather conditions along air routes to be used; notifies or provides for notification of passengers regarding changes in scheduled flights.
• Maintains current log books necessary to the operation of the aircraft or helicopter.
• Schedules aircraft or helicopter for inspection and maintenance according to FAA and agency requirements; inspects and gives final approval of completed maintenance; reviews and approves billing for aircraft maintenance.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
Knowledge of various types of navigation, meteorology, radio operation, aircraft maintenance and civil air regulations applicable to properly operate the particular type of aircraft involved. Ability is required to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to assess situational demands and adopt effective courses of action; to accurately follow oral and written instructions; and to accurately complete forms and reports.
LEVEL DESCRIPTORS
The Airplane/Helicopter Pilot job family has only one level and incumbents will perform responsible work operating and maintaining aircraft in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration requirements.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience requirements consist of possession of a current Commercial Pilot Certificate with single or multi-engine land and instrument ratings and 3,000 logged hours as an airplane pilot including 300 hours of logged instrument flying and night flying- with 100 of the 3,000 logged hours as an airplane pilot must be within the twelve months immediately preceding the date of application and applicants will possess the appropriate land and instrument ratings for the type aircraft to be flown; or a Commercial Pilot Certification with a helicopter rating and instrument rating with a minimum of 1,500 hours of flying time in a helicopter.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT
Must maintain any required licensure(s), certification(s), or other credentials for the length of employment.
Overnight travel is required.
Must possess a valid Oklahoma driver license.
Must possess a current flight physical and medical certification for the length of employment.
SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS
User agencies will require fifteen logged hours in the make and model of aircraft to be operated.
