BASIC PURPOSE

Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities related to the direction, development, planning and coordination of a variety of recreational programs and activities at state resorts, parks, and GRDA lakes.

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS

The essential functions in this job family will vary by level, but may include the following:

  • Develops recreational programs and activities, including fishing, which are provided for state park, resort and lake guests; evaluates the quality of existing recreation programs and provides resort and park personnel with ideas and methods for improving the overall quality of these programs.
  • Arranges training workshops for resort, park and lake personnel; identifies, recruits, interviews, and recommends for employment recreational personnel for resorts and park facilities; conducts training for staff.
  • Identifies and develops bid contracts for professionally skilled individuals and entertainers for resort and park programs.
  • Performs extensive travel to resort and park facilities throughout the year.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

Knowledge of recreation programs; and of the principles of training and supervision.  Ability is required  to maintain positive public relations; convey ideas and instructions, and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; to organize the elements of a program and oversee implementation; to assess program effectiveness; and to develop new activities and programs that upgrade the variety and quality of recreational programs.

LEVEL DESCRIPTORS

The Recreation Programs Coordinator job family consists of only one level and employees are responsible for performing all functions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree in health, physical education, recreation or a closely related field; and three years of experience in supervising recreational programs in parks, summer camps, resorts or closely related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT

Applicants must be willing and able to perform all job-related travel normally associated with this position.
