Introduction

MWRD's Internship Program offers paid internship positions. While the main focus of the MWRD is on wastewater management, there are opportunities to gain knowledge and practical experience in a wide range of functions in each department.

Paid Interns

Paid interns are limited to 119 working days per calendar year and receive $15.00 per hour. They do not receive benefits or paid days off.

Required Documents

  • Letter of Recommendation from current school.
  • Cover letter stating interest.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Enrollment in a degree-seeking program at an accredited university.
  • Permanent residency in Cook County (students may attend school outside the county limit).
  • You must be a citizen or national of the United States, or an individual who is otherwise legally authorized to work in the United States.

Candidates are required to submit the Online Internship Application, submit a cover letter and letter of recommendation through MWRD’s Online Employment Center.

Description:

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is searching for a current senior undergraduate or graduate student to work as intern in the Monitoring and Research Department. The prospective intern will assist with data entry and basic mathematical or statistical analysis if needed. The intern will also work with other professionals to verify the accuracy of the odor monitoring equipment.

Rate of Pay:

This is a paid internship at $15.00/hr.

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

Applicants must have a current residence in Cook County, IL; be a citizen or national of the U.S., or legally authorized to work in the U.S.; obtain a letter of recommendation from current school; and submit a cover letter stating interest in the position.

Educational Requirements:

Applicants must be a current senior undergraduate or graduate student seeking a degree in the field of  Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Chemistry with an emphasis on environmental/aquatic chemistry. Must be familiar with data entry, data analysis, and have basic laboratory skills.
