Pollution Control Technician I (#20003641)


General Statement

Under supervision gathers samples of water from streams, waterways, and industrial waste discharges for use in laboratory analysis and performs related duties as required.

  • Gathers water samples manually or with automatic sampling devices; places them into appropriate containers.
  • Removes manhole covers and handles a variety of heavy equipment.
  • Fills out log sheet on samples, records observations of visible qualities of the liquid sample; tags samples and identifies with names, addresses, times, dates and other pertinent information.
  • Cleans and maintains sampling equipment, vehicles, Tunnel and Reservoir Plan (TARP) generator trailer units, and work stations.

Other Job Functions

  • Adds preservatives to samples.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Environmental Conditions

May involve exposure to industrial equipment or operations, and may involve contact with hazardous or toxic material.  May require frequent exposure to a variety of weather conditions.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to perform all principal requirements of the job, including lifting heavy objects. 
  • Ability to accurately record information regarding samples.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent.  Possession of a valid driver's license.
