General Statement

Under supervision, assists in the maintenance of stocks and records in an assigned storeroom.

  • Receives and checks incoming materials and supplies against purchase orders and requisitions.
  • Provides that materials received are properly and safely stored; moves materials within the warehouse using a forklift or other material moving equipment.
  • Ensures that all material is issued with properly authorized requests.
  • Reviews computerized inventory records for locations, sizes, and amounts on hand, to ensure inventory accuracy.
  • Supervises assigned personnel in carrying out their duties.
  • Orders stock items from outside vendors or other District storerooms as required.
  • Utilizes the computerized inventory database for access to inventory and purchasing records.

Other Job Functions

  • Oversees operation of computerized gasoline dispensing system.
  • Performs housekeeping duties as required to maintain a safe and orderly work environment.
  • Contacts vendors and/or buyers regarding shipments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Environmental Conditions

Work activity is in a warehouse or storeroom environment, and involves exposure to a variety of tools, equipment, chemicals and other industrial materials.  May operate a forklift or other material moving equipment typical of a warehouse environment.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Some knowledge of the types of equipment, materials and supplies stocked by the District.
  • Some knowledge of the basic principles, practices and procedures of storeroom operation.
  • Ability to do general clerical work in connection with receiving, issuing and inventorying stock.
  • Ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinate staff.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent and two years of experience in storeroom operations handling supplies, materials and equipment.

Promotional Requirement

  • One year of service with the District as a Materials Handler Laborer.
  • Civil service status as a Materials Handler Laborer.
