General Statement

Under immediate supervision, works on projects within a District operating department which relate to the intern’s course of study or field of interest.  Projects are designed to provide positive learning experiences while adding value to the organization.

· Works on a project(s) developed by a District operating or support department/unit which relates to the activities of that department. A list of District departments is shown below.

· Information Technology · Board of Commissioners/Treasury
  · Human Resources
· General Administration (e.g., Administrative Services, Diversity, Environmental, Public Affairs) 

 · Produces deliverables as described in the internship project description. 
 · Participates in professional development activities such as writing and interviewing workshops and plant tours. 

Other Job Functions

· Performs other duties as described in the internship request description.

Environmental Conditions

May vary based on the project.  Typically an office environment.  May use standard office equipment and computer terminals.  May involve exposure to a variety of operating mechanical equipment and loud noise and/or noxious odors.  May include working in all types of weather conditions throughout the plant facility and collection system. May involve working in close proximity to or in conjunction with construction activities and heavy equipment, and may require exposure to a variety of weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Some knowledge of the field of study pertaining to the internship project(s).
· Ability to utilize computers relative to the project. 
· Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written direction. 
· Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, orally and/or in writing. 

Minimum Qualification Requirements

  • Current enrollment as a college student.
  • Current residence in Cook County, IL.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, or a national of the U.S., or be an individual otherwise legally authorized to work in the U.S.
