Purpose
The Mail Processor sorts, distributes, and deliver various
types of incoming and outgoing mail in the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD)
mailroom and throughout the other departmental offices.
Essential Functions
Courier
- Deliver and pick up mail at departmental facilities, post offices, and other designated sights.
Mail Processing
- Sort incoming mail into receptacles for distribution to various departmental offices and employees
- Sort incoming and outgoing interoffice and interdepartmental mail.
- Categorize, sort, post, and label outgoing parcels and mail shipped via different deliver or messenger services
Record Keeping
- Maintain accurate records, files, and account records.
- Keep up to date on any changes in requirements and procedures imposed by the United States Postal Service (USPS).

Conditions of Employment
- Lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend and stoop to conduct work.
- Willingness to work and travel throughout the City of Milwaukee.
NOTE: Candidates must pass a Milwaukee Police
Department background investigation before hire.
Minimum Requirements
- At least 18 years of age at time of application close.
- Valid driver’s license at the time of application, throughout the selection process, and throughout employment.
- Good driving record at time of application, throughout the selection process, and throughout employment. Driving record will be checked during the selection process, prior to the job offer, and throughout employment.

Technical
- Ability to precisely sort mail alphabetically and numerically.
- Ability to read and interpret work related document and policies.
- Ability to follow GPS directions and recognize city streets, names, locations, and boundaries.
- Ability to solve job-related problems independently.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Proficiency using the basic features of word processing, spreadsheet, and email software to type letters, memos, and messages and to enter and edit data accurately.
Safety, Judgment, and Professionalism
- Ability to drive a vehicle safely.
- Situational awareness and the ability to monitor traffic to ensure safe conditions while working.
- Ability to pay special attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and diligently
- Honesty, integrity, and the ability to safeguard department materials and equipment.

- Ability to represent the City of Milwaukee positively and to interact with the public in a courteous, tactful, and concerned manner.

Current Salary
Mail Processor
- The current salary is (pay range 6FN) is $33,109 annually and the resident incentive salary for City of Milwaukee residents is $34,103 annually.

Selection Process
THE SELECTION PROCESS will be job related and will
consist of one or more of the following: an evaluation of education, experience
and/or responses to supplemental questions; a written or performance test; a
structured interview; or other assessment methods. The Department of Employee
Relations reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to
structured interviews and performance examinations. Structured interviews may
include written exercises. Selection process component weights will be
determined by further analysis of the job.
INITIAL FILING DATE - The selection process will be
held as soon as practical after the deadline listed above. Receipt of
