Purpose

Under the direction of the Water Information Technology Manager, the Network Coordinator-Senior manages computer network operations and provides support and documentation of system functionality.

Essential Functions

Hardware and Software Systems

  • Conduct computer network hardware and software implementation, patching, and upgrading of servers, workstations, printers, and other network and communications equipment.
  • Help manage the help desk operation for the Milwaukee Water Works (MWW).
  • Perform administration and support for templates, Windows Active Directory, and software, including City e‑mail administration, Financial Management Information System (FMIS) user support, and Human Resources Management System (HRMS) user support.
  • Plan, implement, and monitor computer security for networking, Windows administration, and enterprise software.
  • Conduct troubleshooting to maintain the network system and eliminate downtime for users.

Documentation, Training, and Systems Support

  • Provide related support of servers, applications, and software.
  • Provide end-user training, including written instructions, training classes, and one-on-one tutoring.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of the network maintenance of hardware and software inventories, appropriate image copies, and license tracking.
  • Assist in defining software and procedural standards and exceptions, and write and maintain appropriate documentation.
  • Research new hardware, software, and servers; advise managers regarding budget replacements and additions.

Team Lead

  • Conduct team lead responsibilities as prioritized by the Water Information Technology Manager, including setting priorities for and directing the assignments of Network Coordinator Associates to handle network functions.
  • Provide training for Network Coordinator Associates to meet the needs of the Utility’s operating systems, including upgrades, patching, and recovery.

  • The Network Coordinator-Senior must be willing to respond to technical emergencies during non-standard hours or may at times work an alternative work schedule.
  • Ability to travel to MWW field sites to transport equipment and perform work.
  • Ability to transport computer hardware and accessories weighing up to 35 lbs.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Regular status as a City of Milwaukee employee, having successfully completed a probationary period for a civil service position, or status as a City of Milwaukee employee in a fixed term position.
  2. Bachelor’s Degree in information technology, computer science, mathematics, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  3. Three years of experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Microsoft Operating Systems.
  4. Valid driver’s license and availability of a properly insured vehicle at time of appointment and throughout employment. Private automobile allowance may be paid pursuant to Section 350-183 of the Milwaukee Code.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Characteristics

Technical

  • Knowledge of computer operating systems (i.e., Microsoft Windows, Unix) and associated software, including the Microsoft Office suite, geographic information systems (GIS), and database management programs.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Deployment Toolkit (MDT) imaging operations, antivirus programs, corporate backup operations, Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) protocol, and file transfer technologies.
  • Knowledge of Veeam enterprise backup and Zerto for VMware vSphere disaster recovery software.
  • Knowledge of VMware virtualization software.
  • Ability to conduct job-related research and resolve technical problems using the Internet.
  • Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems.
  • Ability to provide effective end-user support.
  • Ability to remain current with the latest developments in technology and systems.
  • Ability to recommend technical changes and updates to MWW digital infrastructure.
  • Project management skills.
  • Ability to direct and review the work of others.

Current Salary

The current salary range (Pay Range 2GX) is $53,548-$74,974 annually, and the resident incentive salary range for City of Milwaukee residents is $55,155-$77,223 annually. Appointment will be made in accordance with the City of Milwaukee Salary Ordinance.

Selection Process

THE SELECTION PROCESS will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following: an evaluation of related education, experience and accomplishments, an evaluation of written communication, interviews, and/or other assessment methods. The Department of Employee Relations and the Milwaukee Water Works reserve the right to call only the most qualified candidates to proceed in the selection process. Information from the selection process will be used to make a hiring decision. Selected candidates will be transferred and/or promoted to the position.
