Purpose

Under the direction of the Functional Applications Manager, the Comptroller Network Analyst purchases, configures, and maintains computers, applications, related hardware, inventory, licenses, and warranties.

Essential Functions

  • Investigate, diagnose, and resolve network, computer software and hardware issues.
  • Install, configure, and maintain computer hardware, software, systems, printers and scanners.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, test and resolve network connection issues and other IT problems and provide training and documentation to users.
  • Set up and maintain security for Comptroller’s subnetwork and resolve password problems.
  • Assess needs, determine requirements, solicit quotes, and perform purchasing activities for PCs, printers, software and related equipment.
  • Manage service contracts with outside vendors and schedule maintenance.
  • Maintain records of warranties and software licenses.
  • Research and test new procedures, systems, and applications and make recommendations based on test results.
  • Assist users with report writing and PeopleSoft functionality, including query.
  • Manage the equipment budget and maintain equipment inventory and supplies.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be able to properly lift and move computer equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. alone.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  2. Two years of experience in an IT user support environment performing duties closely related to this position.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered.

Knowledges, Skills, Abilities & Other Characteristics

  • Knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft network communications.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Windows 7/10 and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to support HP and similar PCL5/6 network printers.
  • Ability to read and interpret work-related documents.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical information in an understandable way to both technical and non-technical staff.
  • Written communication skills, including the ability to accurately and consistently record information.
  • Interpersonal skills to develop and maintain effective working relationships with employees, managers, City departments, and vendors.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize responsibilities to ensure work is accomplished by project deadlines.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with coworkers and citizens whose backgrounds may differ from one’s own.

Current Salary

The current salary range (Pay Range 2GX) for City of Milwaukee residents is $51,469-$72,063 annually, and the non-resident salary range is $50,206-$70,295.  Appointment above the minimum is possible based upon level of experience and other qualifications and is subject to approval.

Selection Process

THE SELECTION PROCESS will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following: education and experience evaluation; written, oral, or performance tests, or other assessment methods. The Department of Employee Relations reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to oral and performance examinations. Oral examinations may include written exercises. Selection process component weights will be determined by further analysis of the job.

INITIAL FILING DATE - The examination will be held as soon as practical after Friday, July 6, 2018. Receipt of applications may be discontinued at any time after this date without prior notice. However, recruitment may continue until the needs of the City have been met. Qualified applicants will be notified of the date, time, and place of the examination.
