Purpose

Under supervision of the Youth Services Coordinator, the Program Assistant II-EOS assists the Milwaukee Public Library (MPL) Education and Outreach Services (EOS) Unit and Youth and Young Adult Services teams in providing programs and services for youth ages 18 and under. The Program Assistant II-EOS will provide support for the development and execution of system-wide initiatives including the MPL summer reading program.

Essential Functions

  • Work in collaboration with librarians to develop procedures for working with partners to engage more youth in the summer reading program. Recruit new youth-serving organizations as community partners to increase the reach of the summer reading program and increase participation. Recruit partners that work with children in short-term, drop-in, or non-academic programs that may not be connected to summer educational opportunities. Work with librarians to create several models of service for engaging groups outside of MPL’s summer outreach programs.
  • Provide administrative support of EOS program planning and execution, such as completing print and purchase requests, assisting with promotional mailings, responding to outreach requests, and performing data entry.
  • Respond to general inquiries regarding MPL summer reading and related library programs.
  • Introduce efficiencies to streamline the receiving, storage, and distribution of summer reading and other programming materials used by both the outreach and in-library programs. Respond to and fulfill requests for materials from both staff and the public.
  • Assist in the gathering and processing of data for the creation of reports.
  • Direct the work of volunteers performing related functions.

Conditions of Employment

The Program Assistant II-EOS must be willing and able to do the following:

  • Attend job-related outside meetings and work evenings and weekends from time to time.
  • Lift and move 10-20 pounds on occasion.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Four years of progressively responsible experience providing administrative support and customer service for a closely related program such as education, youth services, or community outreach. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered. For example, a closely related bachelor’s degree with a major such as education, child development, psychology, or business or public administration from an accredited college or university may be considered equivalent.
  2. Valid driver’s license and the use of an insured personal vehicle at time of appointment and throughout employment.

  • Ability to perform work accurately and efficiently, including data entry.

  • Ability to identify, analyze, and solve problems in a systematic manner.

Current Salary

The current pay range (5FN) for City of Milwaukee residents is $20.45-$23.20 per hour, and the non-resident pay range is $19.95-$22.63 per hour.

Selection Process

THE SELECTION PROCESS will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following: education and experience evaluation; written, oral, or performance tests, or other assessment methods. The Department of Employee Relations reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to oral and performance examinations. Oral examinations may include written exercises. Selection process component weights will be determined by further analysis of the job.
