Purpose
Following
City of Milwaukee and Milwaukee Water Works policies and procedures, Public
Service Commission (PSC) regulations and generally accepted government
accounting principles, the Accounting Assistant III performs various general
accounting, procurement, and accounts payable functions within the Accounting
Section of the Milwaukee Water Works (MWW).
Essential Functions
Accounts Payable
- Using Oracle’s PeopleSoft Financials (Financial Management Information System, or FMIS), enter invoices received for the Business Section's Administration, Accounting, Customer Service and Technical Services units and MWW's Engineering section; process invoices for payment.
- Create direct purchase orders or invoices involving blanket purchase orders and process payments.
- Review disposition issues that involve open encumbrances and purchase orders from the prior year; provide adjustments once prior years’ carryovers have been posted by the Comptroller’s Office.
Requisition/Purchase Orders
- Enter and process sub-requisition information into FMIS for commodities and services to initiate purchase requisitions.
- Maintain detailed records of all MWW's requisitions, sub-requisitions and related paperwork and respond to inquiries from Purchasing, MWW section managers and/or others regarding related issues.
- Process MWW travel request paperwork.
- Order and distribute supplies.
- Review and process biweekly ProCard activities for submission to the Comptroller’s Office and assist the ProCard manager with related tasks.

Minimum Requirements
- Regular status as City of Milwaukee employee having successfully completed a probationary period for a civil service position, or status as a City of Milwaukee employee in a fixed term position.
- Three years of experience performing accounting and/or bookkeeping work OR an associate degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field from an accredited college and one year of experience performing accounting and/or bookkeeping.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered.

Current Salary
The current starting salary (Pay Range 5EN) is $44,007 annually,
and the current resident incentive starting salary for City of Milwaukee residents
is $45,327. Appointment will be made in accordance with the City of
Milwaukee Salary Ordinance.
Selection Process
THE SELECTION PROCESS will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following: an evaluation of related education, experience and accomplishments, an evaluation of written communication, interviews, and/or other assessment methods. The Department of Employee Relations and the Milwaukee Water Works reserve the right to call only the most qualified candidates to proceed in the selection process. Information from the selection process will be used to make a hiring decision. Selected candidates will be transferred and/or promoted to the position.
INITIAL FILING DATE – The selection process will be
held as soon as practical after the deadline listed above. Receipt of

notice. However, recruitment may continue until the needs of the City have been

NOTE: Transfer/Promotional Opportunities and Promotional Examinations are not open to Milwaukee Public Schools employees or to the public. Only current City of Milwaukee employees and civilian personnel in MFD and MPD hired through a City Service Commission process who have successfully passed a probationary period for a Civil Service position or who have status as a City of Milwaukee employee in a fixed term position will be considered. Individuals with exempt, provisional, temporary, or emergency appointments are not eligible for transfer.
