Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

The fundamental reason this
classification exists is to operate, maintain, and perform preventive
maintenance and skilled repairs on fuel sites and automotive shop support
equipment across various city locations. The employee operates and services a
petroleum service truck to include dispensing fuel and lubricants to city
vehicles, trucks, and heavy off-road equipment. Work responsibilities include ordering
petroleum and alternative fuels, servicing all city-owned vehicles, maintaining
daily records of all petroleum products and service records, and repairing and
rebuilding liquid fuel dispensers, pumps, piping, valves, vapor recovery
systems, and special equipment. This position requires considerable independent
judgement in maintaining adequate petroleum supplies and departmental materials.
Employees in this classification report to the Petroleum Maintenance
Superintendent.
Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama driver's license. Within six (6) months of employment, must be
able to obtain and maintain a Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Hazardous
Material and Tanker Endorsements. Must
be available for on call duty, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed primarily outdoors and may involve exposure to loud noise, and adverse weather conditions such as rain, extreme heat, or cold. Physical requirements include the ability to reach above shoulder level, lift up to 100 pounds unassisted, walking, crawling, bending, stooping, standing for extended periods, and operating a motor vehicle and equipment.
