Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and Montgomery Personnel Board Rules & Regulations**

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason the position exists is to provide stock handling and store record keeping for the Police, Information Technology (IT), and Traffic Engineering Departments, or the Division of Purchasing for the City of Montgomery. The employee is responsible for receiving, issuing, inspecting, and storing a large and varied stock of equipment and supplies for various City departments. The work responsibilities include processing and reconciling purchasing and billing of supplies, equipment, and/or parts, assisting technicians with diagnosing equipment problems, maintaining and updating vendor contracts, conducting spot checks and annual inventory, and preparing surplus equipment and vehicles for public sale. The employee has considerable independent responsibility for maintaining adequate supply and stock levels. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Radio Communications Supervisor, Traffic Maintenance Supervisor, or Warehouse Supervisor. 

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of administrative experience in the receiving, storing, issuing, distributing and charging out various materials, supplies and equipment to other departments or organizations.
 
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Must have and maintain a valid Alabama driver’s license as needed to drive City vehicle when picking up and delivering supplies.  
 
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT: Physical ability to lift up to 80 pounds unassisted as needed to receive, issue and store supplies.

Kind of Examination

The current vacancy is with the City of Montgomery Police Department. Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application. If more than five (5) qualified applications are received, a selection procedure will be administered to rank applicants on the register. Tied scores will not be broken. If there are five (5) or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
