Introduction

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to plan, organize and coordinate the operation within an auto parts storeroom.  Employees in this class supervise a staff engaged in receiving, storing and issuing stock and maintaining records. Work involves responsibility for procurement, requisition, receipt, storage, issuance and record keeping operations involving a variety of vehicle, truck and heavy equipment parts, tires and supplies. Work responsibilities include overseeing the daily operation of an auto parts storeroom to include ordering, storing, distributing, maintaining records, and processing documents; maintaining a computerized inventory of all product orders received, stored and issued by the vehicle parts room; and supervising, directing, and evaluating assigned staff.  The work is performed under the general supervision of the Garage Superintendent.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma or GED equivalent, and four (4) years of responsible experience in ordering, receiving, storing and issuing vehicle parts and supplies, including experience in supervision and computerized inventory systems.

NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Employment is conditioned upon applicants acquiring and maintaining an Alabama Driver's License and providing Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) from the Department of Public Safety as proof of an insurable driving record.  Must be willing to respond to Fleet Management after normal working hours, work day or night shift, and be on-call 24 hours during emergency situations or when deemed necessary by the Director or designated representative.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20 - 50 pounds).
