Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations**

Nature of Work

The fundamental this position exists is to perform skilled electrical duties and provide supervision to journeymen in installing, altering, maintaining and repairing electrical systems, equipment and fixtures in the City of Montgomery buildings and facilities.  The work responsibilities are: oversees and participates in electrical installation for new construction, remodeling and special events for City of Montgomery buildings and facilities; provides technical support, training and supervision to subordinate Electrician Is and Electrician IIs; and performs skilled electrical work. Employees in this class are responsible for laying out working details, assigning duties and inspecting the work of a small group of journeyman electricians and semi-skilled helpers. In addition to supervising the work of others, the incumbent performs electrical tasks. Assignments are made by written or oral instructions of work to be done and work is reviewed for results in meeting the operating requirements of the system. Supervision is received from the Mechanical Trades Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

High School Diploma or G.E.D. and five (5) years of experience in the maintenance, installation and repair of complex electrical systems including two (2) years as a journeyman and one (1) year experience supervising skilled and unskilled workers on electrical maintenance, installation and repair.

NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama Driver’s License and insurable driving record as needed to transport tools or materials between job sites.

WORK CONDITIONS: Must possess strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks to include lifting weights up to 60 pounds (unassisted), bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Work is performed in a variety of locations (indoors, outdoors, on ladders and/or scaffolds) and with exposure to a variety of conditions (weather, extreme hot & cold temperatures, heights, traffic hazards, excessive noise).

Kind of Examination

If more than five qualified applications are received, the supplemental questionnaire will be scored to rank the qualified applicants on the eligible register and tied scores will not be broken. If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
