Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations**

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to supervise a work crew engaged in manual and semi-skilled labor performing a variety of maintenance duties on public right-of-ways, parks, ballfields, playgrounds, neighborhoods, and City-owned buildings. The purpose of this position is to supervise and participate in the application of pesticides, herbicides, insecticides and fertilizers for public areas and sport turfs. The major work duties include planning for an assignment; directing activities on a work site; documenting project activities; and supervising a work crew.  The employee reports directly to the Ballfield Maintenance Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Twelve (12) months of experience in public and sport turf chemical application, to include some experience as a lead worker.

NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.  Must have an Alabama Commercial Pesticide Applicator License – OTPC or OTPS as needed to apply chemicals on City properties. 

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:  Physical ability to lift and move objects up to 50-70 pounds as needed to move materials at work sites.Physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds over head as needed to fill spray equipment. Physical ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, and bend repeatedly for extended periods of time as needed to complete various work tasks. 

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed with exposure to pesticides, insecticides, cleaning fluids and agents, paints, and other chemicals. Work is performed outside with exposure to the elements to include extreme heat, cold, rain, and lightning as well as traveling over rough, uneven or rocky surfaces. Work will require overtime, nights, weekends, and holiday hours as well as afterhours on-call duty during peak months and for special city events.
