Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations**

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is perform highly complex technical engineering work in the field and office related to map production, GIS data collection, and property and plat research.  The work responsibilities are: provides information and detailed guideline packages to petitioners applying for franchises, street, alley, or storm drainage easement vacations, and street abandonments within the City; maintains/establishes City database of all City property, easement, rights-of-way and corporate boundaries; and conducts property research, as requested, from various City departments, City elected officials and private citizens on alleys, streets and storm easements.   Familiar assignments are received with general instructions while new work is performed under supervision of the Public Works GIS Manager.

Minimum Qualifications

Associates Degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Surveying, or Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and four years of experience in land surveying and property research.  Up to two years of experience may be substituted by two years of education in Applied Geography, Geographical Information Systems, Computer Information Science or a related field.

NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Alabama Driver’s License and insurable driving record as needed to operate a City vehicle to travel to various work sites.

Kind of Examination

If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
