Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations**

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform technical civil engineering work in the field or office in connection with the inspection, development, design, construction and maintenance of public works construction projects.  The work responsibilities are: assists on the survey party performing surveys for new highways, highway improvements, bridges, drainage structures  and other public works construction projects;  performs drafting duties; inspects the construction of new streets, curbs, gutters, ditches in residential subdivisions built by private contractors; inspects highway, bridge and other public works construction projects;  assists in the inspection of existing bridges;  maintains detailed records and reports on construction projects; and assists on the survey party.  This classification is distinguished from the lower level classes in this series by higher level of responsibility and the requirement to make decisions independently. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a high-level Civil Engineering Technician who checks for technical accuracy and the Assistant County Engineer.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D. Four (4) years of related experience in surveying, drafting, bridge and road construction.

Note: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Ability to work overtime, occasionally on weekends, weekdays, and holidays.  Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama driver's license and an insurable driving record in order to drive a Montgomery County vehicle.  May require certification in bridge inspection, material testing or surveying.


Kind of Examination

Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire.  For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application form and supplemental questionnaire completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were. If more than five qualified applications are received, the supplemental questionnaire will be used to rank applicants on the register.  Tied scores will not be broken. If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
