Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations**

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this job exists is to supervise corrections officers and corporals engaged in the security, control and discipline of inmates the Montgomery Municipal Jail.  Work involves supervising corrections officers and corporals in assigned duties, ensuring inmates conduct daily work assignments, overseeing or assisting with processing inmates, completing department forms or preparing memos and reviewing records, reports and paperwork, directing the training of new corrections officers, planning and directing daily jail activities and operations and assisting corrections officers or Jail Administration as needed to resolve problems, reporting daily activities to Jail Administration, enforcing department rules and regulations and relaying information to other Sergeants, Lieutenant, or Major.  Work is performed under the general supervision of the MJCO Lieutenant(s) in accordance with established department and state standards and guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications

Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.  Must have at least two years as a Corrections Officer Corporal with the Montgomery City Jail.

Special Requirements

Must be of good moral character and have no record of conviction or a misdemeanor or felony involving violence, force, or moral turpitude, or serious traffic violations.

Kind of Examination

Applicants will be screened and qualified based on education and experience as shown on the application.  For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application form completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were.  If more than five qualified applications are received, a selection procedure will be administered in order to rank applicants on the employment register. Tied scores will not be broken. If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
