Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.
**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations**
The fundamental reason this classification exists is to support the efforts of local libraries primarily in the areas of the children’s materials and assistant management of branches. Work responsibilities include performing circulation, performing collection maintenance, creating and implementing programs and events, serving patrons and the public, assisting in the management of a facility, and performing a variety of library related duties. Librarian I’s indirectly supervise employees and may serve as supervisor in the absence of a supervisory librarian; however, they do not have final supervisory authority. The Librarian I classification differs from the library assistant series in that Librarian Is are more involved in the management of an assigned facility. The Librarian I classification differs from the Librarian II classification in that the II positions typically serve as technical experts in a specific library discipline. The Librarian I classification is typically supervised by a Librarian II, III, or IV.
Bachelor’s degree in elementary education, English, computer science or a degree that is closely related to library work and 1 year of experience performing technical library work such as circulation and collection maintenance. A master's degree in librarianship from a program accredited by the American Library Association or a master's degree with a specialty in school library media from an educational unit accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education can be substituted for the 2 years of experience.

If more than five qualified applications are received, the supplemental questionnaire will be scored to rank the qualified applicants on the eligible register and tied scores will not be broken. If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
