Equipment Operator II

Applications are being accepted to fill (1) vacancy and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register.  The current vacancy  is with the City of Montgomery Parks and Recreation Department.  Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application.  For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application form completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were.  if more than five qualified applications are received, an online clerical test will be used to rank applicants on the register.  Tied scores will not be broken.  if there are five or less qualified applicants, the will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations**

The fundamental reason this job exists to operate moderate to heavy equipment in the completion of projects for various City of Montgomery departments.  The essential functions are: operates maintenance equipment; operates heavy equipment; operates hauling equipment; maintains equipment, tools, and work area; and performs miscellaneous tasks.  Equipment Operators typically use two or more types of the following equipment: bulldozers, scrapers, front-end loaders, wheel rollers, dump trucks, hauling equipment, and/or trash compactors. The majority of Equipment Operators’ time is spent utilizing equipment that requires a CDL and many Equipment Operator IIs receive training on various pieces of heavy equipment for future advancement to the Heavy Equipment Operator classification.  Equipment Operators are supervised by various classifications, dependant upon the incumbents’ assigned locations.

Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.   May be required to travel across rough, uneven or rocky surfaces at the various work sites. Must be willing to work weekends, holidays and evenings as needed by the department.

This position is open only to City of Montgomery Parks and Recreation Department employees who have completed their probationary period and meet the minimum qualifications.
