Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations**

Nature of Work

This is skilled mechanical work of the journeyman level in the maintenance and repair of automotive and light truck vehicles, requiring a high degree of technical ability related to engine maintenance or major rebuilding.  This work requires the ability to accurately diagnose needed repairs and for prompt completion of the repair work on automobiles and light trucks.  Employee works under general direction and supervision and is expected to exercise independent judgment as to the method of repair after receiving written or oral instructions concerning the operating condition of the vehicles. Work may be inspected or tested by a master mechanic or superintendent after work is completed. 

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D. Three years of experience as an automotive mechanic to include at least two years at the journeyman level.

NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.




Special Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama driver's license.  Must be able to attend specialized training out of town as needed to maintain or increase skills.  Must be willing to respond to the Garage in order to make repairs to automotive vehicles after normal working hours and be willing to be on call 24 hours during emergency situations or when deemed necessary by the director or his designated representative.  Must be willing to work day or night shifts. Employment is conditioned upon applicants acquiring and maintaining an Alabama Driver's License and providing a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) from the Department of Public Safety as proof of an insurable driving record. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:    Physical ability to maneuver objects weighing up to 100 pounds and to perform other strenuous physical tasks over extended periods of time.  Ability to work in dusty, drafty, and noisy environments.  Ability to stand for extended lengths of time as needed to perform job duties.  



Kind of Examination
