Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations**

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to operate and perform preventive maintenance and skilled repair work of fuel sites at various city locations and to perform repair and maintenance of automotive shop support equipment. Employee operates and maintains the petroleum service truck to include daily servicing and dispensing petroleum products to all automobiles, trucks and heavy off road equipment. The essential functions of this position are: orders petroleum and alternative fuel products; services all city owned vehicles; maintain daily records of all petroleum products, equipment serviced and monthly records of fuel; and services, repairs, and rebuilds liquid fuel dispenser, pumps, piping, valves, vapor recovery systems and special equipment. Employee has considerable independent responsibility for maintaining an adequate supply of petroleum products and departmental supplies. Employee reports to the Petroleum Maintenance Superintendent.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED with twelve (12) months experience in petroleum equipment service and repair or other related mechanical repair field. 

 

NOTE:  Preference will be given to those applicants who have completed a course or courses from an accredited vocational or technical school in automotive or mechanical repair.  

NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered. 

  

Special Requirements

Must obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) - Class B and a Hazardous Material and Tanker Endorsements within six (6) months after hire in order to drive hazardous material vehicles. Must possess and maintain a valid state Alabama driver's license.  Must be willing to be on call, nights, weekends, and holidays.

Kind of Examination
